The Black Bay Fifty-Eight is one of those watches whose importance is easier to see in hindsight.

When Tudor introduced the 39 mm format, it answered a question collectors had been asking for years: what would a modern Black Bay look like if it returned to the proportions of the brand’s vintage dive watches?

The answer was the 79030N.

A compact 39 mm steel case, black domed dial, gilt detailing, matte black aluminum bezel, snowflake hour hand, and rivet-style bracelet combine to create a watch that feels deliberately vintage-inspired without becoming a reproduction.

This example dates from 2019, placing it among the earlier years of the reference, and presents in excellent pre-owned condition.

🌟 Collector Provenance

The Black Bay Fifty-Eight became one of Tudor’s defining modern references because it changed the proportions rather than the basic formula.

The standard Black Bay had already established the snowflake hands, domed dial, aluminum bezel, and heritage-driven design language. The Fifty-Eight simply brought those elements into a smaller 39 mm case, closer in spirit to the Tudor dive watches of the late 1950s.

That change proved consequential.

The BB58 helped drive the broader return toward smaller, thinner sports watches and quickly became one of the most recognizable Tudor references of its generation.

The black 79030N was the original expression of that idea and remains the configuration most closely associated with the model.

🌟 Design Provenance

The appeal is in the restraint.

The black dial and bezel are warmed by gilt-tone hands, markers, minute track, and bezel printing, creating a watch that feels vintage without looking artificially aged.

At 39 mm, the case is compact but not delicate. The broad bezel, substantial crown, and riveted bracelet preserve enough tool-watch character to keep the watch feeling purposeful.

The MT5402 is COSC-certified and uses a silicon balance spring, while the long power reserve means the watch can come off the wrist for most of a weekend and still be running when picked up again.
