🔎 Case Notes
The Planet Ocean has always been Omega’s more uncompromising Seamaster, and the 42 mm 232.30.42.21.01.001 is one of the best-balanced versions of the formula.
The case is substantial without becoming oversized, the black ceramic bezel keeps the presentation clean and durable, and the black dial gives the watch the classic professional-diver look that suits the Planet Ocean particularly well.
This example presents in excellent pre-owned condition and is accompanied by its box, papers, and cards. The warranty card dates from 2023, giving this discontinued reference unusually recent documentation.
The bracelet is currently sized for approximately a 6¾-inch wrist, with the diver’s extension allowing fit to approximately 7¾ inches when opened.

🌟 Collector Provenance
This generation of Planet Ocean sits at an important point in Omega’s modern dive-watch history.
It moved the collection away from the earlier Calibre 2500 generation and into Omega’s in-house Calibre 8500 era, while retaining the 42 mm case size that many collectors still consider the sweet spot of the line.
The 8500 brought a longer power reserve, twin-barrel architecture, Co-Axial escapement, and an exhibition caseback, while the ceramic bezel gave the watch a more modern finish without abandoning the straightforward tool-watch personality of the original Planet Ocean.
🌟 Design Provenance
The appeal of the black 42 mm Planet Ocean is how little of it feels ornamental.
Black dial. Black bezel. Steel case and bracelet. Large luminous markers. Broad hands. Everything is built around clarity and presence.
At the same time, the polished surfaces and sapphire display back give it just enough refinement to feel like a luxury sports watch rather than pure dive equipment.
The 42 mm case also matters. Later Planet Ocean generations became more substantial, while this reference keeps the proportions comparatively restrained.
🧾 From the Case File
This is the Planet Ocean for someone who wants the full technical package without moving into oversized territory.
The 600-meter depth rating, helium escape valve, ceramic bezel, screw-down crown, and Calibre 8500 give it serious capability, while the 42 mm case keeps it genuinely wearable.
This example also has an unusual practical detail worth noting: the bracelet is sized for about a 6¾-inch wrist, but the diver extension opens the fit to approximately 7¾ inches. That gives the watch more flexibility than the base sizing initially suggests.
Add excellent condition, BPC, and a 2023-dated card, and this becomes a very clean example of a discontinued Planet Ocean generation that still feels thoroughly modern.
🗝️ BST Verdict
One of the most balanced Planet Oceans Omega has produced.
The 42 mm case keeps the watch wearable, while the Calibre 8500, ceramic bezel, 600-meter capability, and exhibition back give it the technical depth expected from the line.
A clean, complete example with unusually recent documentation makes Case 629 especially appealing.
