๐Ÿ”Ž Case Notes

The case of the green PRX is, at heart, a case of colour and light. The green dial carries a subtle textured pattern that adds depth and character while keeping the applied indices and date display highly legible โ€” the waffle-style treatment Tissot revived from its 1970s design language. In daylight it reads as a deep, saturated green; under lower light it darkens toward near-black, which is exactly why this dial has become one of the more sought-after colourways in the line.

Around it sits the reference's defining shape: a barrel-shaped case measuring 40 mm in diameter, in 316L stainless steel with a see-through caseback, flowing without interruption into the integrated bracelet. The alternating brushed surfaces and polished chamfers and bezel are what give the PRX its presence well beyond its price point โ€” a genuinely integrated-bracelet sports watch, not a conventional case with a bracelet attached to it.

Mechanically it is the Swatch Group's workhorse at its most useful: the Powermatic 80, an evolution of the long-serving ETA 2824, running at 3 Hz with a Nivachron hairspring and an 80-hour power reserve. Tissot rates the case to 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft).

This example is a 2024 watch in Excellent Pre-Owned condition, with no condition issues recorded at inspection. It is supplied with its papers and cards; no box accompanies the watch. The bracelet is currently sized to fit an approximately 8-inch wrist.

๐ŸŒŸ Collector Provenance

The PRX arrived in 2021 as a quartz reissue and, within months, became one of the most discussed watches in the entry-level Swiss market. The Powermatic 80 version โ€” the 40 mm automatic in which this watch sits โ€” is the configuration that converted interest into genuine enthusiast respect, because it delivered the integrated-bracelet silhouette with a mechanical movement, a display back and a three-day-plus reserve.

What followed was rapid expansion: a 35 mm case, a Valjoux-based chronograph, forged carbon, gradient and mother-of-pearl dials. The green 40 mm steel model on the integrated bracelet remains one of the purest expressions of the concept โ€” no precious-metal plating, no complication beyond the date, just the shape and the dial doing the work. Among the colour options it is also one of the more distinctive choices; Tissot offers both a deep green (this reference) and a separate light green execution under reference T137.407.11.091.01, and the two are frequently confused in the secondary market. This is the darker of the pair.

Collectors tend to value the Powermatic 80 generation for a specific technical reason: the 80-hour reserve was achieved through a lower 3 Hz frequency and a stronger mainspring, and rather than silicon components, this version relies on a Nivachron hairspring for antimagnetic performance. It is a sensible, serviceable, widely understood calibre โ€” a watchmaker's movement rather than a boutique curiosity.

๐ŸŒŸ Design Provenance

The PRX is not a modern design wearing vintage clothing. The name was first unveiled under "Seastar" before Tissot registered PRX โ€” P for Precise, R for Robust, and X as the Roman numeral ten, for the 10 bars of water resistance. Tissot describes it as a slim, smooth watch with an authentic '70s feel, built on a Tissot case shape dating from 1978.

That lineage matters because the late 1970s was the brief, intense era when the integrated steel sports watch became a category of its own. The PRX's tonneau case, flat bezel and tapering bracelet descend directly from that moment. Where it differs from its ancestors is in the details a modern owner actually notices: the sapphire crystal, the display back, and a quick-release bracelet that can be swapped without tools.

The green dial pushes the design one step further from the original blueprint. Period-correct in texture, contemporary in colour โ€” it is the version that makes the strongest case for the PRX as a design object rather than simply a value proposition.

๐Ÿงพ From the Case File

On the wrist, the numbers tell the story. At 40 mm wide but only 39.50 mm in case length and 10.93 mm thick, this wears compactly and sits flat under a cuff โ€” a rarity among integrated sports watches, many of which run long across the lugs. The bracelet is currently sized to an approximately 8-inch wrist; links can be added or removed by any competent watchmaker to adjust fit.

The 80-hour reserve is the single most practical advantage of this generation. Set it down on Friday evening and it is still running, unattended, on Monday morning โ€” no resetting the date, no re-winding before work. For a watch likely to share wrist time with others in a collection, that is a meaningful quality-of-life feature rather than a specification-sheet talking point.

The 100 m rating covers everyday exposure โ€” washing, rain, light swimming. The sapphire crystal handles desk-diving. The 12 mm lug width is integrated into the bracelet design, and the quick-release system means Tissot's own rubber and leather options can be fitted in seconds should the owner want a second look.

As a 2024 example in Excellent Pre-Owned condition with no recorded flaws, this watch offers the appeal of a current-production design without the wait lists and allocation games that have followed the PRX since launch. It is supplied with papers and cards; Tissot supplies these watches with a two-year warranty, and any remaining coverage would depend entirely on the original activation date recorded on the card and on Tissot's warranty terms.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ BST Verdict

The strongest argument for this particular PRX is the dial. The green executes the 1970s waffle idiom with more character than the standard blue or black, and it is the colour most likely to be noticed and asked about.

Beyond that, this is a 2024 example in Excellent Pre-Owned condition with nothing recorded against it at inspection, carrying a serviceable Swiss automatic calibre with a genuinely useful three-day reserve, in a case that wears smaller than its 40 mm would suggest. A design-led, honestly specified steel sports watch โ€” and one of the more interesting colourways in which to own it.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Every case deserves a closer look.
