Case Notes

The blue Black Bay Fifty-Eight takes the formula that made the 39 mm BB58 such a success and cools it down completely.

Instead of the gilt-heavy black-and-gold palette of the original, the M79030B uses a rich navy-blue dial, matching matte blue aluminum bezel, silver-tone hands and markers, and Tudor’s riveted stainless-steel bracelet.

The result feels cleaner, more modern, and a little less overtly vintage while preserving everything that made the Fifty-Eight work in the first place: compact proportions, no-date symmetry, a long power reserve, and serious dive-watch capability.

At 39 mm, the case hits a particularly useful middle ground. It has enough presence for a modern sports watch but remains compact enough to wear comfortably across a wide range of wrists.

Inside is Tudor’s Manufacture Calibre MT5402, a COSC-certified automatic movement with approximately 70 hours of power reserve.

This example dates from 2023 and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition. It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

Because it dates from 2023, it should also retain meaningful Tudor factory warranty coverage, subject to the exact warranty-card date and Tudor’s five-year transferable guarantee terms.

Collector Provenance

The Black Bay Fifty-Eight became one of Tudor’s defining modern references because it brought vintage-inspired proportions back into the center of the brand’s sports-watch lineup.

The original black version established the format, but the blue M79030B gave the same architecture a noticeably different personality.

Where the black Fifty-Eight leans warmer and more nostalgic, the blue version feels cleaner and more contemporary.

The 39 mm case, domed dial, aluminum bezel, no-date layout, and riveted bracelet all remain intact, but the color palette changes the character of the watch considerably.

Design Provenance

The navy-blue dial is the key.

It is not a bright or tropical blue. In lower light it can read almost slate or midnight, while stronger light brings out a richer marine tone.

The matching blue bezel keeps the watch visually cohesive, while the silver-tone handset and markers sharpen the contrast.

The absence of gilt makes this version feel less vintage-coded than the black model, which is precisely why many collectors prefer it.

Technical Provenance

The MT5402 is one of Tudor’s core modern manufacture movements.

It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, carries COSC chronometer certification, and provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve.

That long reserve makes the watch especially practical in rotation.

The rest of the specification is equally straightforward: screw-down crown, domed sapphire crystal, unidirectional dive bezel, and 200 meters of water resistance.

From the Case File

The BB58 is one of those watches that gets the proportions right before anything else.

At 39 mm, it wears compactly without feeling small. The bracelet adds enough visual weight to keep the watch balanced, while the no-date dial preserves symmetry.

Case 687 dates from 2023 and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition.

It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

The 2023 date also means the watch should retain useful factory warranty coverage, subject to the exact card date.

BST Verdict

One of Tudor’s easiest modern sports watches to wear.

The blue dial and bezel give the Fifty-Eight a cleaner, cooler personality than the original black version, while the 39 mm case, MT5402 movement, 70-hour reserve, and 200-meter rating keep the formula mechanically serious.

Case 687 adds a 2023 date, Excellent condition, BPC, and remaining warranty potential to one of the most balanced Black Bay configurations Tudor has produced.

Every case deserves a closer look.
