Case #667 — Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Composite Ref. PAM00505
Case #667 — Panerai Radiomir Black Seal Composite Ref. PAM00505
Status: Available
Condition: Very Good Pre-Owned
Scope: Panerai Box and Stickers
Case Notes
The Radiomir is already the quieter side of Panerai. The PAM00505 makes it considerably more unusual.
Instead of polished steel, this Black Seal uses Panerai Composite, giving the familiar 45 mm cushion-shaped Radiomir case a matte, dark brown appearance that works exceptionally well with the brown sandwich dial and brown leather strap.
The result still has unmistakable Panerai presence, but without the shine or visual weight of a conventional steel case. The warm brown palette gives the watch an almost military, utilitarian character while preserving the oversized numerals, sandwich construction, and wire-style lugs that make a Radiomir identifiable immediately.
Inside is Panerai’s automatic P.9000 manufacture calibre with twin barrels and approximately three days of power reserve.
This example presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition and is fitted to a brown leather strap that will accommodate approximately an 8-inch wrist. It includes its Panerai box and original Panerai stickers.
Production date is presently unknown.

Collector Provenance
The PAM00505 belongs to a particularly distinctive chapter in modern Panerai production.
The Radiomir is the brand’s oldest fundamental case design, recognizable by its cushion-shaped case, minimal bezel, wire-style lugs, and absence of the crown-protecting bridge associated with the Luminor.
For the PAM00505, Panerai combined that historic architecture with its dark Composite case material and an automatic manufacture movement.
That combination gives the watch a very different character from a conventional polished-steel Radiomir. It remains unmistakably Panerai, but feels darker, warmer, and considerably less formal.
The Black Seal name reinforces that personality while the sandwich dial and large luminous numerals retain the visual language collectors expect from the brand.
Design Provenance
Brown is doing almost all of the work here.
The matte Composite case, brown sandwich dial, and brown leather strap create a nearly monochromatic watch, but the different surfaces prevent it from feeling flat.
The case absorbs light rather than reflecting it. The dial provides depth through its sandwich construction, with luminous material visible beneath the cut-out numerals and markers. The leather adds texture and warmth.
At 45 mm it remains a substantial watch, but Radiomir cases wear differently from their dimensions suggest. The rounded cushion form and wire-style lugs allow the strap to fall away from the case quickly, making the watch sit more naturally on the wrist than many conventional 45 mm designs.
Technical Provenance
The P.9000 is one of the important movements from Panerai’s move toward manufacture calibres.
It is an automatic movement running at 28,800 vibrations per hour and uses twin barrels to provide approximately 72 hours of power reserve.
The layout includes central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, and a date display at 3.
The movement is also part of the visual experience. Unlike many Panerai tool watches with solid casebacks, the PAM00505 uses a sapphire exhibition back, allowing the P.9000 to remain visible.
From the Case File
The PAM00505 is a large watch that avoids feeling flashy.
The matte Composite case removes nearly all of the reflective surfaces associated with a polished Panerai, while the brown dial and leather strap reinforce the more subdued character.
That makes it particularly appealing for someone who likes Panerai proportions and design but wants something less obvious than stainless steel.
The three-day automatic movement is also genuinely useful. The watch can come off the wrist for most of a weekend and still be running when picked up again.
This example presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition and includes its Panerai box and stickers. The brown leather strap will accommodate approximately an 8-inch wrist.
BST Verdict
One of the more distinctive executions of the Radiomir formula.
The matte Panerai Composite case, brown sandwich dial, brown leather, sapphire display back, and three-day P.9000 movement give the PAM00505 an unusually cohesive personality.
It is unmistakably Panerai, unmistakably substantial, but considerably more understated than its 45 mm dimensions might suggest.
Every case deserves a closer look.
