Case Notes

The Black Bay 58 GMT gives Tudor’s travel-watch formula the proportions collectors had been waiting for.

At 39 mm wide and only 12.8 mm thick, it is considerably more compact than the original Black Bay GMT while retaining full GMT functionality. The defining visual feature is the bidirectional 24-hour bezel with its black-and-burgundy anodized aluminum insert, quickly earning the reference its enthusiast nickname: “Coke.”

The domed black dial uses gilt-tone applied markers and warm accents that keep the watch firmly connected to the Black Bay family. A red GMT hand tracks reference time against the 24-hour bezel, while the local hour hand can be adjusted independently when traveling.

Inside is Tudor’s Manufacture Calibre MT5450-U, an integrated GMT movement certified by both COSC and METAS as a Master Chronometer. It offers approximately 65 hours of power reserve and avoids the added thickness of a modular GMT architecture.

This example dates from 2024, the model’s launch year, and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition. It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

As a 2024 example, it retains meaningful coverage under Tudor’s five-year transferable guarantee, subject to the exact warranty-card date and Tudor terms.

Collector Provenance

The Black Bay 58 GMT is important because Tudor did more than simply shrink the earlier Black Bay GMT.

The MT5450-U was engineered as an integrated GMT movement specifically suited to the smaller architecture, allowing Tudor to retain a genuine independently adjustable local-hour hand without turning the watch into an overly thick travel watch.

That mechanical work is what makes the proportions possible.

The black-and-burgundy bezel immediately gave the model an identity of its own, while the 39 mm case brought GMT functionality into the same size category that made the Black Bay 58 such an enthusiast favorite.

This 2024 example also comes from the model’s launch year, which gives it a particularly clear place in the Black Bay chronology.

Design Provenance

The Black Bay 58 GMT remains unmistakably Tudor.

The domed black dial, gilt details, Snowflake hour hand, aluminum bezel, and rivet-style bracelet all carry the vintage-inspired vocabulary that defines the Black Bay family.

The GMT elements add color without overwhelming the design.

Burgundy warms the lower half of the bezel, black keeps the upper half restrained, and the red GMT hand adds one functional accent across the dial.

At 39 mm and 12.8 mm thick, the watch also avoids the visual bulk associated with many modern mechanical GMTs.

Technical Provenance

The MT5450-U is an integrated automatic GMT movement certified by both COSC and METAS.

It provides approximately 65 hours of power reserve and allows the local hour hand to be adjusted independently in one-hour increments while the reference-time hand continues to track home time.

That is the practical definition of a true travel GMT.

Tudor’s Master Chronometer certification also covers precision, magnetic resistance, water resistance, and power reserve after the movement has been cased.

The surrounding watch adds 200 meters of water resistance, a screw-down crown, domed sapphire crystal, and a bidirectional 24-hour bezel.

From the Case File

The Black Bay 58 GMT solves the biggest objection many buyers had to Tudor’s earlier GMT models: size.

It delivers a true jumping-hour GMT, date, rotating 24-hour bezel, 200-meter water resistance, and Master Chronometer certification in a compact 39 mm case.

Case 693 dates from the model’s launch year of 2024 and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition.

It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

BST Verdict

A compact GMT with very little compromise.

The 39 mm case, black-and-burgundy “Coke” bezel, integrated MT5450-U movement, true jumping local-hour function, T-fit bracelet, 65-hour reserve, and dual COSC/METAS certification make the Black Bay 58 GMT one of Tudor’s strongest modern travel watches.

Case 693 adds a launch-year 2024 date, Excellent condition, complete BPC presentation, and remaining factory warranty to an already highly desirable configuration.

Every case deserves a closer look.
