π Case Notes
Some watches ask to be noticed. The Avenger does not ask β it simply arrives. At 44 mm across and 15.2 mm thick, this is Breitling's unapologetically aviation-bred chronograph: wide bezel grip pattern, oversized screw-locked crown, broad luminous hands, and a dial laid out for reading at a glance rather than for admiring at arm's length.
What elevates this particular reference above the standard Avenger line is what sits behind the dial. The AB0147101C1A1 carries Breitling's manufacture Caliber 01, a self-winding mechanical chronograph with approximately 70 hours of power reserve, beating at 28,800 v.p.h. with 45 jewels β the brand's own column-wheel-architecture chronograph rather than a sourced Γ©bauche, and visible here through a screwed-in sapphire crystal caseback.
The dial is a deep blue with applied stick indices and a date aperture, framed by a unidirectional ratcheted steel bezel and protected by cambered sapphire, glareproofed on both sides. Blue is the quieter of the Avenger dial options and, against brushed steel, it reads considerably more wearable than the specification sheet suggests.
This example presents beautifully. BST's physical inspection records only very minor wear visible throughout β the kind of light handling marks that take angled light to find. It arrives on its steel bracelet, sized for an approximately 7ΒΎ-inch wrist.
An important disclosure on scope: this watch comes as a Jomashop kit with a Jomashop card. It does **not** include a Breitling warranty card, and BST makes no claim to factory warranty coverage.

π Collector Provenance
The Avenger has always been Breitling's most physically assertive line β the pilot's chronograph stripped of Navitimer intellectualism and rebuilt around legibility, grip and pressure resistance. Where the Navitimer rewards study, the Avenger rewards reflex: large indices, high-contrast hands, a bezel that can be turned with gloves on, and a case rated to 300 metres rather than the 30 or 100 metres typical of dress chronographs.
This reference belongs to the significant overhaul of the Avenger collection introduced in 2023, a capsule built around three sub-models and a wide spread of variations, including new dial colours and materials. Within that restructuring, the B01 Chronograph 44 is the collection's technical flagship β the version that receives the manufacture movement rather than a supplied calibre.
That distinction matters more than the name suggests. For most of the Avenger's life, the chronographs ran sourced or modified Γ©bauche calibres; the Avenger Chronograph 43, for instance, uses the Breitling 13 with approximately 48 hours of power reserve and 25 jewels. Placing the in-house 01 into the Avenger case moved the line from "rugged tool chronograph" to "rugged tool chronograph with serious horological content" β and gave it the exhibition caseback to prove the point.
π Technical Provenance
Breitling's Caliber 01 is the movement that re-established the brand as a chronograph manufacture. Its hallmarks are a column-wheel control system, vertical clutch coupling, and the long autonomy that modern collectors have come to expect: approximately 70 hours, meaning the watch can sit from Friday evening to Monday morning and still be running.
The practical consequences are felt in use rather than in specification. A vertical clutch means the chronograph seconds hand starts without the slight stutter common to horizontal-clutch designs, and permits extended running of the chronograph without meaningful amplitude penalty. The column wheel governs the crisp, defined feel of the pushers. Timing resolution is to 1/4th of a second, with 30-minute and 12-hour counters β enough range for genuine elapsed-time work rather than decorative sub-dials.
It is also a movement designed to be serviced rather than replaced, which is a relevant consideration on any chronograph intended for long-term ownership.
π§Ύ From the Case File
This is a watch for someone who wants presence without pretence. The 44 mm diameter and 15.2 mm thickness are not shy, and the blue dial does nothing to disguise the proportions β but blue softens the Avenger's edge in a way black does not, and the brushed bracelet keeps light from exaggerating the case. On a 7Β½ to 8-inch wrist it sits as intended: substantial, balanced, and clearly a tool watch.
Day-to-day, the combination of a screw-in crown and 300 m water resistance removes the usual chronograph anxieties around water, while the 70-hour reserve makes it a realistic watch to own alongside others in a rotation. The unidirectional ratcheted bezel is a functional safety feature, not decoration β it can only move in the direction that shortens elapsed time.
The condition case is straightforward. BST's inspection records only very minor wear across the watch, which places it close to the top of the Excellent Pre-Owned band without crossing into unworn territory. Buyers should note clearly what is and is not here: the watch arrives with box and papers in the form of a Jomashop kit and Jomashop card, with no Breitling warranty card and therefore no factory warranty claim from BST. Year of manufacture is not documented and is listed as unknown. BST has not conducted timing tests on this example and makes no representation about current rate performance.
ποΈ BST Verdict
The strongest argument for this watch is the movement in it. The Avenger B01 Chronograph 44 is the version of Breitling's most physical chronograph that earns its exhibition caseback β a manufacture column-wheel chronograph with a weekend-proof reserve, inside a 300-metre pilot's case.
The blue dial is the thoughtful choice within the configuration, and this example wears its history lightly: very minor wear, sized to an approximately 7ΒΎ-inch wrist, offered honestly as a non-Breitling-carded kit. If you want the in-house Avenger and do not need the warranty paperwork, the arithmetic here is unusually clear.
π Every case deserves a closer look.
