Case #706 — Omega Speedmaster 38 Ref. 324.30.38.50.01.001

Status: Available
Condition: Very Good Pre-Owned
Scope: Watch, Cards, and Non-Omega Presentation Box

Case Notes

The Speedmaster 38 takes the core idea of Omega’s chronograph and packages it into a much more compact, everyday format.

At 38 mm, it gives up none of the recognizable Speedmaster vocabulary: black dial, tachymeter bezel, tri-register chronograph layout, steel bracelet, and the familiar mix of brushed and polished surfaces. What changes is the scale.

This generation is also immediately recognizable by its horizontal oval chronograph registers and vertical date window at 6 o’clock, details that gave the Speedmaster 38 its own visual identity rather than simply shrinking the Moonwatch.

Inside is Omega’s Co-Axial Calibre 3330, an automatic chronograph movement with approximately 52 hours of power reserve and chronometer certification.

This example dates from 2024 and presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition.

It includes the watch, Omega cards, and a non-Omega presentation box. The original Omega presentation box is not included.

The bracelet is currently sized for approximately a 6½-inch wrist.

As a 2024 example, the watch should retain meaningful coverage under Omega’s five-year international warranty, subject to the exact activation date shown on the warranty card and Omega’s terms.

Collector Provenance

The Speedmaster 38 was created as a more compact and approachable expression of the Speedmaster idea.

Rather than reproducing the Professional Moonwatch at a smaller diameter, Omega gave the model its own design language.

The oval subdials, integrated date window, automatic movement, and 38 mm case made it a distinct branch of the Speedmaster family.

That distinction is even clearer now.

In 2026, Omega substantially revised the Speedmaster 38 collection, replacing the earlier oval registers with round subdials and moving the collection visually closer to the Moonwatch.

That leaves this 324.30.38.50.01.001 as part of a now clearly defined earlier generation of the Speedmaster 38.

Design Provenance

The proportions are the reason this watch works.

At 38 mm, it is significantly easier to wear than many modern automatic chronographs, but the black dial and tachymeter bezel preserve the visual weight expected from a Speedmaster.

The three oval subdials are the signature feature of this generation.

They soften the otherwise technical dial and help distinguish the Speedmaster 38 from the conventional Moonwatch layout.

The date at 6 o’clock adds everyday practicality without shifting the dial off balance.

Technical Provenance

The Calibre 3330 is an automatic Co-Axial chronograph movement with approximately 52 hours of power reserve.

It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides chronograph, small-seconds, and date functionality.

The surrounding case adds genuine everyday practicality with sapphire crystal and 100 meters of water resistance, considerably more than a traditional Speedmaster Professional.

From the Case File

The appeal here is straightforward: a Speedmaster that fits wrists the larger models sometimes overwhelm.

The 38 mm case keeps the watch compact while still delivering the black dial, chronograph complication, steel bracelet, and tachymeter scale that define the family.

Case 706 dates from 2024 and presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition.

It includes its Omega cards and is supplied in a non-Omega presentation box. The original Omega box is not included.

The bracelet is presently sized for approximately a 6½-inch wrist.

BST Verdict

A genuinely wearable Speedmaster rather than simply a smaller one.

The 38 mm case, automatic Calibre 3330, distinctive oval-register dial, date function, 100-meter rating, and steel bracelet make this a particularly practical interpretation of Omega’s chronograph lineage.

Case 706 adds a recent 2024 date and remaining warranty potential, while the now-superseded dial architecture gives this generation a distinct identity of its own.

Every case deserves a closer look.
