Case #722 — Tudor Black Bay Heritage Red Ref. 79230R
Status: Available
Condition: Excellent Pre-Owned
Scope: Box, Papers, and Cards
Case Notes
The burgundy bezel is where the modern Black Bay story began.
The 79230R pairs Tudor’s unmistakable red aluminum bezel with a black dial, gilt-tone details, Snowflake hands, and a rivet-style stainless-steel bracelet. It is warmer and more characterful than the black version, but still restrained enough to work as an everyday sports watch.
This is the manufacture-movement generation of the original 41 mm Black Bay, powered by Tudor’s MT5602 automatic calibre. The movement carries COSC chronometer certification and provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
Unlike Tudor’s newer burgundy Black Bay models, this generation retains the thicker original Heritage case architecture and the vintage-inspired riveted bracelet that helped define the early modern Black Bay aesthetic.
This example dates from 2020 and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition. It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

Collector Provenance
The red Black Bay occupies a particularly important place in Tudor’s modern history.
When the first Black Bay appeared in 2012, the burgundy bezel became one of the signatures of Tudor’s return to vintage-inspired dive-watch design. The color immediately separated the watch from the black-and-blue palette that dominates most traditional divers.
The 79230R belongs to the later generation that retained that identity while replacing the earlier outsourced movement with Tudor’s own MT5602 manufacture calibre.
That transition gave the watch COSC certification and a significantly longer 70-hour power reserve without changing the fundamental character that made the Black Bay successful.
The result is the mature version of the original Black Bay formula.
Design Provenance
The burgundy bezel does most of the visual work.
Against the black dial and steel case, it gives the watch warmth without overwhelming it. Gilt-tone printing and hands reinforce the vintage influence, while the Snowflake hour hand keeps the watch unmistakably Tudor.
The rivet-style bracelet continues that design language.
This is not the slimmer, more contemporary Black Bay architecture Tudor uses today. The 79230 generation has more physical presence and wears like the substantial 41 mm sports watch it was designed to be.
Technical Provenance
The MT5602 is one of the movements that established Tudor’s modern manufacture-calibre era.
It runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, carries COSC chronometer certification, and provides approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
That reserve makes the watch effectively weekend-proof: set it aside Friday evening and it can still be running Monday morning.
The surrounding case provides sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, unidirectional dive bezel, and 200 meters of water resistance.
From the Case File
There is a reason Tudor keeps returning to burgundy.
The color has been tied to the modern Black Bay almost from the beginning, and the 79230R captures that early identity in the full-size 41 mm manufacture-movement platform.
Case 722 dates from 2020 and presents in Excellent Pre-Owned condition.
It includes its Box, Papers, and Cards and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.
