Case Notes
Hamilton got the proportions and the period detail right with the Intra-Matic Auto Chrono.
The H38416111 takes its inspiration directly from Hamilton’s late-1960s chronographs, pairing a bright silver-white dial with contrasting black subdials, a black tachymeter scale, pump-style pushers, and a stainless-steel mesh bracelet. The result is unmistakably vintage in character without asking the owner to live with vintage-watch compromises.
At 40 mm, it has enough presence to feel like a modern automatic chronograph but remains compact enough to preserve the proportions that make the design work.
Inside is Hamilton’s H-31 automatic chronograph calibre, providing approximately 60 hours of power reserve.
This example presents in excellent pre-owned condition and includes its box, papers, and undated warranty card. The stainless-steel mesh bracelet is sized to accommodate approximately an 8-inch wrist.

Collector Provenance
The modern Intra-Matic Auto Chrono draws directly from Hamilton chronographs of the late 1960s.
Rather than simply borrowing a few vintage cues, Hamilton preserved the elements that give those watches their character: contrasting registers, a peripheral tachymeter scale, compact case proportions, and a clean two-register layout.
Hamilton specifically describes the current model as a modern interpretation of one of its 1968 signature designs.
That connection matters because the Intra-Matic does not feel like a generic contemporary chronograph dressed in vintage colors. The proportions, layout, and details all work together as a cohesive period-inspired design.
Design Provenance
The panda dial is the centerpiece.
A light main dial against deeply contrasting black chronograph registers creates instant legibility while giving the watch considerably more personality than a monochromatic chronograph.
The stainless-steel mesh bracelet reinforces the late-1960s character and is particularly well matched to the case. It also changes the way the watch wears, giving the 40 mm case a lower-profile, more fluid feel around the wrist than a conventional multi-link bracelet.
Hamilton has resisted the temptation to over-modernize the design, which is precisely why it works.
Technical Provenance
Hamilton’s H-31 is an automatic chronograph calibre with an extended approximately 60-hour power reserve.
That reserve makes a meaningful difference in everyday ownership. The watch can be removed for a day or two and still be running when picked up again, while the automatic winding system eliminates the routine associated with a vintage hand-wound chronograph.
The sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, and 100-meter water-resistance rating further separate the modern Intra-Matic from the vintage watches that inspired it.
From the Case File
This is a vintage-style chronograph that does not require vintage-watch behavior.
The 40 mm case is easy to wear, the sapphire crystal provides modern durability, the 100-meter rating makes the watch practical for normal daily use, and the H-31 movement provides considerably more reserve than many traditional automatic chronographs.
The stainless-steel mesh bracelet is also an important part of this particular reference rather than an aftermarket styling exercise. It is Hamilton’s factory configuration and complements the 1960s design extremely well.
Case 654 presents in excellent pre-owned condition, includes its box, papers, and undated card, and will accommodate approximately an 8-inch wrist.
BST Verdict
One of Hamilton’s most convincing modern heritage watches.
The 40 mm proportions, panda dial, mesh bracelet, and twin-register layout capture the character of a late-1960s chronograph, while the H-31 automatic movement, sapphire crystal, 60-hour reserve, and 100-meter water resistance make it thoroughly practical today.
Case 654 adds excellent condition and a complete presentation to an already exceptionally handsome chronograph.
Every case deserves a closer look.
