Status: Available
Condition: Very Good Pre-Owned
Scope: Inner Box, Chronometer Card, and Booklet

Case Notes

The Spirit Zulu Time is one of the watches that helped change the way collectors look at modern Longines.

At 39 mm, this version gets the proportions especially right. The anthracite dial is paired with a green ceramic 24-hour bezel, applied Arabic numerals, gilt-tone accents, and a steel bracelet, creating a GMT that feels substantial without becoming oversized.

The green bezel is the defining feature here. It is dark enough to remain restrained indoors, but picks up significantly more color in brighter light. Against the anthracite dial and warm detailing, it gives the watch personality without turning it into a loud travel watch.

Inside is the Longines Calibre L844.4, a COSC-certified automatic GMT movement with a silicon balance spring and approximately 72 hours of power reserve.

This example presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition and is currently sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

It includes its inner Longines box, chronometer card, and booklet. The inner box has loose hinges, which we are disclosing plainly as part of the scope.

The production date of this example is currently unknown.

Collector Provenance

The Spirit Zulu Time connects modern Longines directly to the brand’s history of multi-time-zone watches.

Longines traces the Zulu Time name to a dual-time-zone wristwatch it produced in 1925, whose dial incorporated the Zulu flag. “Zulu” refers to the letter Z, historically used by aviators to designate universal time.

The modern Spirit Zulu Time translates that history into a contemporary GMT built around the L844 calibre.

That movement, combined with COSC certification, a ceramic bezel, silicon balance spring, and practical 39 mm proportions, helped make the Zulu Time one of the most important recent additions to Longines’ sports-watch catalog.

Design Provenance

The 39 mm version is particularly successful because the proportions allow the dial and bezel to remain visually balanced.

The anthracite dial provides a softer backdrop than conventional black, while the green ceramic bezel gives the watch just enough color to distinguish it from the more conservative configurations.

Applied Arabic numerals and warm metallic accents keep the watch from feeling purely utilitarian.

The result sits comfortably between pilot watch, travel watch, and everyday steel sports watch.

Technical Provenance

The L844.4 is central to the appeal of the Spirit Zulu Time.

It is an automatic GMT movement running at 25,200 vibrations per hour with approximately 72 hours of power reserve.

Longines equips it with a monocrystalline silicon balance spring and submits the watch for COSC chronometer certification.

The bidirectional 24-hour bezel adds another layer of travel functionality, while the screw-down crown and 100-meter water-resistance rating make the watch practical enough for daily use rather than limiting it to travel duty.

From the Case File

This is the size that makes the Zulu Time especially easy to live with.

At 39 mm, it has enough wrist presence to feel like a proper sports watch but remains compact enough to work on a wide range of wrists.

The steel bracelet adds versatility, while the 72-hour reserve makes the watch forgiving in rotation.

Case 660 presents in Very Good Pre-Owned condition and is sized for approximately a 7¾-inch wrist.

Its accompanying inner box does have loose hinges. That does not affect the watch itself, but it is part of the package and is disclosed accordingly.

BST Verdict

One of Longines’ strongest modern GMTs in one of its best-balanced sizes.

The 39 mm case, anthracite dial, green ceramic bezel, COSC-certified L844.4 movement, 72-hour reserve, and steel bracelet combine into a travel watch that is genuinely useful without looking overbuilt.

Case 660 adds Very Good condition and generous bracelet sizing, with its box condition disclosed exactly as it should be.

Every case deserves a closer look!
